The group “Experimental Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy”:: Farmacología Experimental y Farmacia Clínica | Bienvenidos :: (us.es)), CTS-259 of Andalusian Regional Government, has great experience in experimental preclinical (in vitro, in vivo and ex-vivo) studies in digestive system and rheumatology pharmacology areas, investigating the pharmacodynamics of new targets (natural and synthetic products) with therapeutic interest in autoimmune diseases. Lines of research have been directed towards the fields of rational use of medicines and nutrition and health. Specifically, in last 10 years research has focused on studying the effects of diets enriched in olive oil and other vegetable oils on immuno-inflammatory processes such as ulcerative colitis and its derivation to colorectal cancer (AGL2005-05132, AGL2008-02475), and extra virgin olive oil functionalism and its bioactive compounds in experimental rheumatoid arthritis (P-10AGR6609) and systemic lupus erythematosus (AGL2011-26949, AGL2017-89342-P). In addition, members of CTS259 group have been also involved in two challenge-collaboration projects investigating the efficacy of new mucoadhesive preparations in inflammatory digestive pathology. The scientific trajectory of the group is solid thanks to the competitive funding that has given rise to important national and regional projects.
Reseach Lines
1. Nutrition and health: preclinical research (cellular and animal models) of functional foods and nutraceuticals: olive oil, beer, polyphenolic compounds and isothiocyanates in pathologies related to oxidative stress, inflammation, immunomodulation and cancer.
2. Assessment of the pharmacological activities of bioactive molecules with therapeutic interest, studies of the mechanisms of action and molecular signaling pathways involved in preclinical models (in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo) of colorectal cancer and joint autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus and psoriatic arthritis), and other diseases of gastrointestinal immunoinflammatory origin (celiac disease, ulcerative colitis and Chron's disease).
3. Studies of rational use of medicines and clinical pharmacy.
4. Nutritional intervention studies in patients with immune-mediated diseases.
5. Determination of antimicrobial activity against Helycobacter pylori in different models of preclinical experimentation (in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo).
